Generals Put Up Strong Performance at NAHL Showcase

The Generals wrapped up a successful trip up in Blaine, Minnesota, for the 2026 NAHL showcase this week, taking five of six points back home to Canton. After taking their first loss of the season, 5-4 in a shootout to the Lone Star Brahmas on Wednesday, the Gens responded with back-to-back wins over the Kenai River Brown Bears and Houston Bulls.

Game 1: Generals vs Brahmas

The Gens faced the Lone Star Brahmas in a tight matchup that eventually ended in a shootout. Lone Star got on the board early in the first, but Kyle Moyer responded to even up the score going into the first intermission. Peter Koukouves opened the scoring in a back-and-forth second period, giving the Gens a 2-1 lead. Lone Star answered to tie the game at two apiece before Jack Messick put the Generals back in front. Lone Star once again responded, sending the teams into the second intermission tied 3-3.

The Brahmas opened the third with an early goal, but Joc Bukovec wasted no time in finding the back of the net 15 seconds later to even the score at four. Both teams were then held scoreless through the remainder of regulation and overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Kody Moyer and Logan Poulin converted their opportunities for the Gens, but in the end, Lone Star came away with a win.

Despite taking their first loss of the season, the Generals earned a point and turned their attention to Thursday’s matchup with Kenai River.

Game 2: Generals vs. Kenai River Brown Bears

Northeast bounced back in a big way, beating the Kenai River Brown Bears 7-3.

The Gens started the game strong, applying pressure and establishing a strong forecheck early. However, they were put on their back foot and forced to defend after penalties made it hard to maintain momentum through the opening period. Kenai River opened the scoring late in the first, sending Northeast into the intermission trailing 1-0.

In the second period, the Generals found their offense. Kody Moyer capitalized on the man advantage, finding a rebound and putting it in the back of the net to tie the game up.

Emil Szepesi gave the Gens their first lead of the game just a few minutes later, converting during a delayed penalty to make it 2-1. Kenai River responded and tied the game heading into the final period. 

The Gens pulled away in the third, scoring five goals in the final frame. Logan Poulin started the scoring early in the third, in the final seconds of the power play. Goals from Nate Porter, Keegan Gregory, Matthew Lacombe, and Braydon Hudtloff followed to secure the Generals’ win. The offensive effort showed off Northeast’s depth, with seven different Generals scoring in the matchup.

Game 3: Generals vs. Houston Bulls

The Generals carried the momentum into Friday morning, closing out the showcase with a 4-1 win over the Houston Bulls.

Northeast controlled the matchup on both ends of the ice, with Logan Poulin netting the game’s first goal in the final minute of the first period to put the Gens ahead. Early in the second, Emil Szepesi extended the lead, making it 2-0. Houston got on the board to cut the deficit to 2-1 but was held off the scoresheet the rest of the game. The Generals put the game away late, with Braydon Hudtloff finding the empty net before Nate Porter added another just nine seconds later, capping off the scoring and securing the 4-1 victory.

On the other side of the ice, Keagin Wilson and the Generals’ defense stifled Houston’s offense, limiting the Bulls’ opportunities throughout the game. The 4-1 win put the finishing touches on a strong showcase for Northeast.
Showcase Takeaways
The Generals leave Blaine with plenty of positive takeaways, leaving just one point behind and outscoring their opponents 15-9.

The team’s offensive depth was on full display, with 11 different players accounting for the Gens’ 15 goals across the three games. Northeast outscored its opponents 11-4 over the final two games following Wednesday’s shootout loss, finishing the week on a high note offensively.

Goaltenders Keagin Wilson and Gavin Weeks provided strong performances in net throughout the showcase. Weeks turned aside 25 of the 28 shots he faced in Thursday’s win over Kenai River, posting an .893 save percentage. Keagin Wilson got the start in the opening game against the Brahmas and was back between the pipes for the final game of the showcase, where he saved 26 of the 27 shots he faced for a .963 save percentage, his best of the early season.

The Generals also showed their ability to respond to adversity. Reflecting on Wednesday’s shootout loss, Keagin Wilson was proud of the way the team came together to close out the showcase.

“I think we did a good job putting it behind us and not letting it carry over. We definitely came together as a team following that and finished off the week with two wins, which I was proud of.”

The team bounced back with consecutive wins and a plus-six goal differential over their final two games in Blaine.

The Gens turn their attention back to East Division play, preparing to face the Philadelphia Rebels this Friday and Saturday at home, with puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
