Generals Open 2026-27 Season With 6-3 Victory Over Tomahawks

The Generals opened their 2026/27 season in front of their home crowd this past Saturday with a 6-3 win over the visiting Johnstown Tomahawks.

The Gens were quick to get on the scoresheet. Six minutes into the game, Captain Braydon Hudtloff opened the scoring, and Matthew Lacombe doubled the lead 28 seconds later to make it 2-0 early in the first. The Tomahawks responded with a power-play goal late in the period, making it 2-1 going into the first intermission.

Offensive opportunities were limited in the second period, with both teams being held off the scoresheet until late in the frame. Logan Poulin broke the scoreless period, converting on the power play to extend the Generals’ lead to 2 heading into the second intermission.

The scoring picked back up in the third, with Poulin scoring his second power-play goal of the game early in the period, pushing the Generals’ lead to 4-1. The Tomahawks answered, scoring a power-play goal of their own to cut the deficit back down to 2.

With the clock winding down, Kody Moyer found the empty net for a shorthanded goal to restore the Gens’ three-goal lead. Still, Johnstown wasn’t done yet and scored 30 seconds later to make it 5-3. Robert Savaglio capped off the scoring with an empty-net goal with 12 seconds remaining, sealing the 6-3 Generals victory.

KEY PERFORMANCES

Keagin Wilson had a strong first start of the season between the pipes, saving 35 out of the 38 shots he faced for a 0.921 SV% to power the Gens to the 6-3 win.

Kody Moyer started his season off with a goal and three assists for four points on the night, making an immediate impact on the Generals offense. Moyer is coming off a 56-point 2025-26 season performance with the Generals.

Logan Poulin found the back of the net twice on the power play, the second being the game-winning goal, and tacked on a secondary assist on the first goal of the game. His three-point night earned him NAHL East Division Star of the Week honors. Poulin’s performance came after a strong 2025-26 season in which he recorded 49 points in 44 games and was named NAHL Rookie of the Year.

Entering his second season with the Generals, Poulin will also serve as one of the team’s four captains alongside fellow returning forwards Kody Moyer, Braydon Hudtloff, and Owen O’Rear. Looking ahead to the season, Poulin said he is focused on continuing to develop his game in all areas.

“I’m hoping to build my game in the defensive zone as well as positioning in the defensive zone. As well as continuing to produce offensively on and off the stat sheet. It’s an honor to be named a captain, we have three great other captains as well, so I think our leadership core is very solid and experienced.”

The Gens are hoping to stay in the win column as they head down to face the Danbury Hat Tricks at Danbury Ice Arena this Friday and Saturday.
