The Northeast Generals, backed by a 7-point night from Kody Moyer, forced a winner-take-all game three in the opening round playoff series with an 8-2 victory over the Maine Nordiques.
Moyer’s seven points (2g,5a) set a franchise record for most points in a playoff game.
After the Generals’ valiant comeback effort that fell just short in game one’s 5-4 loss, their progress carried over to the opening 40 minutes of Saturday night’s matchup. The Generals scored 4 first-period goals and 4 second-period goals, leading the game 7-0 at one point.
Moyer and Rucireto finished with a pair of goals. Beckett Hinchsliff, Finn Connor, Alec Hall, and Cole McKenna rounded out the scoring.
The Generals’ power play was a force to be reckoned with, going 4/7. Overall, through two games, the man-advantage is sizzling at 6/11. Their penalty kill is just as strong, stopping 9/10.
Will Mizenko had a bounce-back performance, turning aside 23 of 25 shots faced in the win.
The two sides will have a very quick turnaround and face off at 3:00 pm on Sunday, with the winner moving on to the East Division Semi-Finals to take on the #2-seed Rochester Jr. Americans.
